Landholder and community resources
The main legislation under which Victoria’s mineral resources are managed, is the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990.
Several guides are available to help landholders and communities understand key aspects of how minerals exploration is regulated, particularly regarding explorers accessing privately owned land.
Landholders seeking to understand more about their rights in relation to minerals exploration should visit the community and land use of this site.
The Victorian Farmers Federation and the Mineral Council of Australia have developed a landowner’s guide titled Introduction to Victoria’s Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990. The guide provides an overview of the Act and provides suggestions for both land holders and licence holders, as they negotiate the various requirements.
