For explorers

The Stavely Arc

The Stavely Arc area in western Victoria is shown to be prospective for copper, gold and other metals discoveries.

New copper and gold opportunities

A public tender of 11 new minerals exploration licence areas (blocks) in the southern part of the Stavely Arc closed on 15 August 2018.

The tender included the opportunity to apply for up to $500,000 in exploration grant co-funding per block (to be matched by the tenderer), from the Victorian Government’s $15 million TARGET Minerals Exploration Initiative’s grants program.

Demonstrated prospectivity

World class pre-competitive geoscience carried out over six years has shown western Victoria to be prospective for copper deposits, gold and other metals.

The Stavely Project, a geoscience collaboration involving Geoscience Australia, the Geological Survey of Victoria, the Deep Exploration Technology Cooperative Research Centre and other partners, has produced a suite of new pre-competitive geoscience data, a Regional Synthesis and a 3D geological model of the area.

In addition to new pre-competitive geoscience, the Victorian Government’s work program referred to as the Stavely Minerals Exploration Initiative has included land planning, and engagement with industry and local stakeholders to inform identification of ground suitable to release and tender for minerals exploration.

This Initiative is reducing mineral exploration risk and helping communities understand and feel more confident in future minerals exploration in Victoria.
