Community information session: Lysterfield-Rowville Quarry Operations

Lysterfield and Rowville community members were invited to learn about the planning and operating requirements and compliance activities for local quarries at a webinar held on Wednesday 24 March 2021.

Earth Resources Regulator in coordination with Knox City Council, the Environment Protection Authority Victoria and the Department of Transport and Planning delivered the event, which:

  • outlined the roles of each regulatory authority overseeing quarry operations;
  • explored community concerns about quarry operations; and
  • discussed how, when and where community members can provide feedback about quarry operations.

Community members were invited to submit questions they have about the regulation of quarry operations. Many were addressed on the evening and are answered in the recording of the event.

A large number of questions were received before and during the event and not all could be addressed on the night. However, all questions submitted relevant to regulatory requirements of quarries, have been answered (WORD - 112.6 KB) .

Quarries supply stone, sand and gravel materials that make up our roads, rail networks, housing, schools, hospitals and more.  All quarries must operate in accordance with regulations to protect public safety and the environment and comply with planning requirements.

The information session was organised in response to an increase in interest around the two quarry operations in the Lysterfield-Rowville area.
