Earth Resources Regulation has acted to ensure the community is not at risk from excessive dust from a quarry in Melbourne’s west.

Following complaints about persistent dust from a Deer Park quarry, and after conducting a thorough investigation, the state’s quarry regulator has issued a Notice to Boral Australia for allegedly failing to control dust and prevent impact on surrounding properties.

Dust can be controlled by using sprinklers or mobile water carts to wet the rock crushing plant, stockpiles and roads within the quarry.

Boral Australia is required to comply with the Notice over the next four months.

Should it fail to comply with the Notice, the company faces a maximum penalty of $402,500.

To ensure public safety and the environment are protected Earth Resources Regulation sets operational requirements for quarry sites and is responsible for ensuring standards are maintained.
