Earth Resources Regulation has acted to ensure the community and environment are not at risk from non-compliant maintenance at a disused quarry site.

Earth Resources Regulation has acted to ensure the community and environment are not at risk from non-compliant maintenance at a disused quarry site.

The regulator issued six Notices to Boral Australia for alleged breaches of its Work Plan at a site in Yallourn North.

The alleged breaches include broken fencing, a lack of boundary warning signage, inadequate erosion and sediment control, lack of weed management as well as derelict equipment and rubbish littering the site.

Boral is required to comply with the Notices within set timeframes ranging from 18 March to 31 May 2019.

Should they fail to comply with the Notices, the operator faces a maximum penalty of $161,000 per offence.

To ensure public safety and safeguard the environment, Earth Resources Regulation, as Victoria's quarry regulator, sets operational requirements for all sites and is responsible for ensuring standards are maintained.
