Victoria’s prospects on display at Minerals Round Up

The Geological Survey of Victoria (GSV) showcased their work on responsible exploration and mining at the Australian Institute of Geoscientists' Victorian Minerals Round Up, providing updates on geoscience data and demonstrating the use of their resources for more efficient industry processes.

Supporting the resources industry to undertake responsible exploration and mining is a key objective of the Geological Survey of Victoria (GSV).

Victoria’s geoscience agency was recently at the Australian Institute of Geoscientists’ (AIG) Victorian Minerals Round Up in Ballarat addressing the state’s largest annual gathering of geologists.

The two-day conference featured GSV presentations by Manager of Basement Geoscience Cameron Cairns and Senior Geophysicist Suzanne Haydon.

Mr Cairns updated the conference’s 250 delegates on the progress of GSV’s pre-competitive geoscience data. This included data recently gathered through the Exploring for the Future initiative with Geoscience Australia, critical minerals projects with CSIRO and the MinEx Co-operative Research Centre.

On the second day, Ms Haydon demonstrated how drawing on GSV’s existing resources - including GeoVic, GSV Catalogue and Earth Resources Publications - could enable more efficient and effective work processes for industry.

As a conference partner, GSV have collaborated with AIG over several years to deliver an engaging format for the Minerals Round Up, cementing its place on Victoria’s minerals industry calendar.

The gathering also featured 30 presentations, 20 drill core exhibits and several Mining Equipment and Technology Services (METS) displays.
