Process underway to appoint a new Mining Warden

The search is underway for a new Mining Warden. An interim Mining Warden will be appointed shortly, while the selection process for a new warden takes place.

The search is underway for a new Mining Warden following the decision of the current office holder, Neill Campbell, to accept a role with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

An interim Mining Warden will be appointed shortly, while the selection process for a new warden is underway. The Office of the Mining Warden remains open during this time.

The Mining Warden is an independent statutory office holder and has an important role focussed on resolving issues around the development and operation of mining and minerals exploration activity.

The Mining Warden investigates and attempts to resolve disputes by mediation, conciliation or arbitration. The Mining Warden can also make recommendations to the Minister for Resources.

Parties in dispute may consider alternative dispute resolution services, such as Victorian Small Business Commission and the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria.

These additional dispute resolution options may be suitable but not in all cases, the Mining Warden has a role in regard to specific matters covered by the state’s mining legislation.

Neill Campbell has served as Victoria’s Mining Warden since September 2016.
