New gold guide can improve your prospects this easter

One hundred and seventy years on from the start of the gold rush, recreational prospectors are retracing the steps of pioneers in ever greater numbers looking for their own piece of history.

One hundred and seventy years on from the start of the gold rush, recreational prospectors are retracing the steps of pioneers in ever greater numbers looking for their own piece of history.

Minister for Resources Jaclyn Symes today launched a Guide to Recreational Prospecting in Victoria at McIvor Creek, Heathcote.

The new guide produced by Earth Resources Regulation provides handy tips to newcomers as well as being a reference guide for the more experienced. It explains where prospecting can take place, what equipment can be used and how to do the right things, starting with the purchase of a ten-year miner’s right for just $25.20.

The Prospectors and Miners Association of Victoria (PMAV) has supported the creation of the guide and are keen to connect new prospectors to its enthusiastic network of nuggety enthusiasts.

PMAV President Matthew Carkeek described prospecting as one of the state’s foundation stones.

“We’re excited to be involved in the development of the new guide and promotion that acknowledges the benefits that modern day prospecting brings to individuals, groups and the regional areas of our uniquely golden state,” said Mr Carkeek.

Recreational prospecting is a great reason to get out to the country and enjoy more of Victoria.

Get involved by downloading the guide, watching a short video and then heading out in search of gold!
