Geological Survey of Victoria hydrogeologists will be on hand at the Sungold Field Days to talk water and answers questions from farmers, students and the general public.

Testing will be available so if you want to know more about the groundwater at your place, bring along a sample for analysis.

The marquee will also feature 3D projections of local geology to help boost community understanding of what lies beneath south west Victoria.

Hydrogeology equipment will be on display and everyone is welcome to come along and talk about the studies being undertaken in the region.

The hydrogeologists at Sungold work on the Victorian Gas Program, which for the first time is delivering a suite of comprehensive geoscientific and environmental studies of the potential gas resources of the region.

A key focus of the environmental studies is groundwater testing.  Over 70 water samples across the south west have now been collected from State Government-owned monitoring bores to determine groundwater chemistry, identify traces of natural gas (methane) and provide a benchmark of existing environmental conditions.

The testing also includes looking for stygofauna - miniature creatures that may indicate the health of groundwater.

The Sungold Field Days are taking place at Allansford from 13 to 15 February, visit the Geological Survey of Victoria’s marquee located at site G4 on Coon Street.

“Geology has a huge influence on the above ground landscape, including the features that make the south west region so well suited to agricultural and fishing industries.”

“The sessions running at Sungold are a great way for students and those interested in geology to experience science in action.”
