A down to earth view on water at Elmore

Find out more about the bore water at your property or that unusual rock you picked up on the farm from Earth Resources staff who’ll be at the Elmore Field Days.

Find out more about the bore water at your property or that unusual rock you picked up on the farm from Earth Resources staff who’ll be at the Elmore Field Days.

Geological Survey of Victoria hydrogeologists will be on hand to test your bore water sample for free, giving you a verbal report on its pH and salinity.

Come along and talk about your rocks with the Survey’s geologists, you never know what you’ll discover.

Earth Resources staff will also be providing information about a new tool to help farmers better negotiate land access with minerals explorers, including what minerals exploration involves and how it is regulated.

The Victorian Government is intending to open new ground for minerals exploration to the east and northeast of Bendigo, with a competitive tender to commence later in 2019.

Initial exploration may involve low impact activities such as mapping, rock sampling, surveying, soil sampling, and localised drilling to better understand the geology and mineral potential of an area.

Earth Resources staff will be in the Agriculture Victoria marquee at the corner of Bonn Drive and Second Avenue during the Elmore Field Days.

Quotes attributable to Geological Survey of Victoria Acting Director, Grant Clarke:

“Our expert hydrogeologists will be on hand to answer your questions on groundwater, if you specifically want to know more about your farm water, bring along a sample and we’ll analyse it for you.”

“Geology has a huge influence on the above ground landscape, including the features that make the central west region well suited for agriculture.”

“We’re encouraging farmers to bring along rocks and talk to our geologists about the ground beneath their feet.”
