Onshore and Coastal Waters

The Petroleum Act 1998 provides a framework for the regulation of onshore petroleum exploration and development activities (excluding transmission pipelines). The Act addresses licensing, approvals and other issues including compensation, rehabilitation and royalties. The Act seeks to ensure that petroleum exploration and development have regard for economic, social and environmental interests.
