Stawell Gold Mine Community Concerns Review
The Stawell Gold Mine Community Concerns ReviewStawell Gold Mine Community Concerns Review (PDF 3781.8 KB) was completed in December 2015.
The review involved direct engagement with the Stawell community to gain an understanding of the community's concerns.
The majority (71%) of respondents were not concerned at all, or mildly concerned about the current operation of the mine. A significant proportion of respondents (29%) are quite or very concerned about current practices.
Of the concerns, the top six were:
- tailings dam impacts,
- air quality general,
- air quality specifically from the ventilation shafts,
- general uncertainty and divisions in town, and
- general health concerns.
The report makes a number of recommendations related to improving community engagement by both the mine and ERR. ERR is considering the report’s recommendations for ongoing community engagement.
